Newfoundland Christmas, Take Two

Hey guys

How was Christmas? It was a dream here. It snowed and Sister O and I drove around Gander looking at the lights. Loved it. She got me so many good presents too, it was such a good day.

The Parkes had us over for Christmas Eve with Tim and Jenny, the Smiths and the Elders. We had Jigg's Dinner. Hazel and Andy, some friends of ours and the Pratts had us over for Jigg's Dinner on Christmas.

Hazel: I've had these crystal ornaments for 20 years
Me: That's as old as me
Andy: You're only 20?! I have underwear older than you! I'm wearin em right now! Wanna see?
Sister O: lol

Soooo cool thing happened this week. Sister O and I were hanging up #LIGHTtheWORLD posters around Gander earlier this week and as we were walking out of one of the malls, this lady came up to us and just started talking to us on our way out. She told us she's in a lot of pain and so we told her we would come shovel her driveway. She gave us her address. Oh, her name is Debbie.
So we went caroling to her the next night with our FHE group. She was so happy.
The next day, Sister O and I went by again. She let us right in. We helped her with her Christmas tree and she let us watch "Mr. Kruger's Christmas" with her. Because of all of that, she told us we can come back and teach her! We gave her a Book of Mormon and are going back tomorrow :) Christmas miracle!

Sister O and I also caroled and took some extra presents to some of the Syrian Refugees here in town. The kids were SOOOO excited. That was probably my favorite part of Christmas Eve.

It was super good to see my family again. Everyone has grown up so much, especially Sarah. Holy.

I love you guys so much!

Merry Christmas!

Sorry no time but here's some pictures.

Sent to corner brook for p-day and said bye to Auldrey before she goes on her mission. there was a storm, so we got stuck there.

Went to st. john's for Christmas conference. Presidad so graciously put me in charge of the music, it went fine.

Sis. O and I did our comedy skit "sister missionary probs" ft. sister pratt. everyone laughed. i'll send the video when i get it.

Went caroling with the st. john's sisters bc another storm and got stuck in st. john's. found a lady who knows Mormons. it was awesome.

Merry Christmas! Light the World :)

I'll Be Home (Gander) for Christmas

Hey guys,

So Sister Olsen and I are staying in Gander for another 6 weeks together. I think I already mentioned that but I can't remember.

It was a good week. It's -10 today. Joy.

We had a really good lesson with Erica and James. Erica accepted a baptismal date of February 18 :) :) Buuuuut, they're leaving for the Bahamas for a month tomorrow.

I called Rose on the phone last night and she was like "Hey girl, I just had supper and I'm about to drink a cup of... oh. Ha ha. Tea. Ha ha..." and then she got awkwardly silent. So she's still working on the Word of Wisdom.

Wanda is doing alright. Christmas is hard on a lot of people here. Newfoundlanders don't always have the best family situations, but they're all relatively pure in heart, so I like it here.

We had a family history booth in Bonavista this week. #LIGHTtheWORLD has been fun. We visited Paul (Elder Smith still has the picture though), brought lunch to Lesa, went caroling at a care centre, helped with Special Olympics Bowling, and I can't remember what else. It's been good though. Service is probably my favorite way to do missionary work.

Sister Olsen and I are still laughing about the toilet brush incident. We're working on our comedy skit, Sister Missionary Probs, for the zone talent show this week at Christmas Conference. We have the smallest zone, so everyone has to do multiple talents. Also, Presidad decided to put ya girl in charge of coordinating ALL of the music and musical numbers... and he wants a lot.

I hope you're all doing well and stuff.

Love you

Hey Guys! Long week...

Hey guys,

Long week, not sure what to say. We had some really good lessons with Rose and with Wanda. We've been focusing on teaching with the scriptures and our lessons have been going SO much better (not that they were bad before, but they're better now). Alma 37:9 teaches about how important the scriptures really are - missionary work wouldn't be happening without them!

The Sisters in the mission have been focusing on the Book of Mormon this last transfer. We've been ponderizing each week and reading it every day. All of the Sisters in the zone have loved it. "When you look to the Book, you look to the Lord!" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2016/10/look-to-the-book-look-to-the-lord?lang=eng

We're implementing #LIGHTtheWORLD as much as possible in Newfoundland (hence the parades). We did a couple of service activities on the Worldwide Day of Service, one of which was cleaning our investigator, Selina's, house. We got her four kids and the Elders to help us too. It was a lot of fun. Sister O and I were cleaning the bathroom and like, it's pretty small. Just a sink and a toilet right next to each other. So I scrubbed the toilet but I didn't have a place to put the brush, so I just held it over the toilet bowl to drip while I organized a shelf above it. Sister O was on her hands and knees scrubbing the floor, so her face was pretty level with the toilet, and pretty close to it too. Then, out of nowhere, the toilet lid falls down and hits the toilet scrub brush right into Sister Olsen's open mouth. It bounced off her teeth. I died it was so gross and hilarious.

Elder Evans goes home this week, so we had a funeral for him at district meeting. Everyone looks sad in the picture and I was sad too, but Auldrey and I were just so excited to see each other we smiled.

I'll send some pictures of us with mummers. It's a Newfoundland Christmas tradition. It's not new to me because I was here for Christmas last year, but all of the other missionaries on the island are so amused by it ha ha. If you don't know what a mummer or mummering is, I guess you can look it up, but be careful.

Oh and transfer news. Sister O and I are staying together in Gander for another six weeks :)

Have a good week!
